Aloha Mask Review (Nasal Pillow)
The Devilbiss Aloha Nasal Pillow CPAP mask is a mid-priced competent mask. Unique ability to control the angle and depth of the nasal pillows, ball and swivel joint on the mask and a route-able hose over the top of the heads makes this an ideal mask for an active sleeper.
|Very lightweight||headgear not small enough for smaller heads|
|ball and swivel joint and so does hose – great for active sleeper||poor instructions|
|able to adjust angle and depth of the pillows!||does rest on cheeks causing contact sore|
|angled exhalation ports||can’t wash pillow without washing headgear|
|tube can be routed over the head||not easy to remove and cheap plastic breaks|
|3 sizes included||large pillow is more medium-large and doesn’t fit big nostrils|
|headgear rubs against top of the ears|
Getting a good fit: All in the angles
This mask has a neat party trick: you can adjust the angle and depth that the nasal pillows fit on your face. You got a turny-up-nose or a drooping-hawk-nose then you’ll be able to adjust it so you get a good seal at the nostril without the prong digging in too deep.
Another angle thing this mask does is the ball and swivel joint on the hose. This allows you to move your head left and right without pulling on the mask. Great for active sleepers.
The mask also allows you to route the hose over the top of your head. This is another great feature for active sleepers. By routing the hose over your head you can attach it to a hose holder (here) which keeps the hose out of the way when you toss and turn. If the hose ain’t dragging then it can maintain it’s seal even better.
Lightweight CPAP Mask
Apart from the angles, this mask is also very lightweight. A heavy mask tends to pull down on the face and break the seal. So the lighter the better.
It’s also more comfortable if you don’t have something weighing down your face.
Three Nasal Pillows Sizes
The mask comes with 3 pillow sizes. This is great because you can pick and choose which pillow will work best for you without having to send the mask back.
Note however: you should be aware that Large isn’t the same type of large on other masks. It’s more a Medium-Large. So if you have a big nose or wide nostrils this mask may not be for you.
CPAP Headgear Size
The headgear also rubs against the top of the ears for some users. This, along with the fact that it also rests on the cheeks, means it can leave lots of red marks.
Not easy to clean – use SoClean
The pillows can’t be washed with the headgear and removing the nasal pillows is fiddly and it’s all too easy to break the plastic. So if you want to use this mask you should seriously consider using the SoClean system (SoClean).
