This sleek and minimalist nasal pillow mask is very lightweight and easy to put on. RESMed has taken everything they learned from their Swift LT mask and successfully applied it to this mask.
This is a comfortable mask: from it’s improved nasal pillows, the soft frame and easy to use headgear.
Will this mask work for me?
One of the problems with masks is trying to find one that fits. The Swift FX Nasal Pillow comes with three different sizes of nasal pillows.
The mask is designed to fit a large range of faces including small faces and wide faces. In this regard the Swift FX is a good choice for all types of users.
The mask also comes in the form of a ‘For Her’ type. This is designed for the smaller face of a woman and (pretty tacky in my opinion) pink headgear. But there you go: comfort should come before style.
However, as with all nasal pillow masks this shouldn’t be used if you’re a mouth breather. This is just for you nose breathers out there. It might be possible to use a chin strap but you should consider a hybrid mask or a full face mask.
Can I travel with this mask?
It’s super lightweight and small making it ideal for any travelling you may do.
This smallness also helps with those of you who are claustrophobic. Being smaller and with a headgear that doesn’t obstruct your view this will allow you to both read in bed and watch the TV. You will even be able to wear glasses with the mask on.
I’m a light sleeper: is it loud?
One of the most ingenious features of this mask is the way it handles exhaling gasses. Instead of coming out of the front of the mask it comes out through the frame. This allows the out breath to flow away from the face and muffling the noises.
How quiet is it? 25dB. It’s like listening to someone whispering in the library 6 feet away. That’s awesomely quiet.
A lot of customers have noted that the mask is very quiet.
I don’t have much luck getting a good nasal seal
The nasal pillows of the Swift FX is made of silicone and designed with dual-wall flaps. The pillows are also compressible making a good seal to the nose with side sleepers. It allows for movement and makes a good compression for high pressures.
The mask comes with three different sizes for the nasal pillows: Small, Medium and Large. It also comes with a Extra Small but you’ll have to buy that separately.
Is this mask suitable for high pressures?
Another strength of this mask is that it’s been rated to up 20cmH20. Some users have reported it works up to 30cmH20. That’s full face mask pressures in a nasal pillow mask!
I don’t know about you but I’m hair challenged on my head. Not my ears, just the head. And wearing the headgear is uncomfortable.
No so with the Swift FX headgear. It’s made of a silicone based material so it’s soft and flexible like the nasal pillows. It rests on the cheeks and I kid you not: you soon forget that you’re wearing them.
RESMed also includes SoftWraps. These are soft fleece that wraps around the headgear side straps. This is both added comfort and helps prevent the headgear from slipping.
It’s like cuddling your favourite blanket you had when you were a kid.
I find putting the mask on and off a bother, does this mask help?
Some masks are like an aircraft cockpit: full to buttons and sliders. Very complicated with the ability to change every single option.
With the Swift FX there are only two adjustment locations: the back-strap and the buckle on top. The back-strap is made of Lycra with Velcro fasteners.
Sounds wonderful: what’s the catch?
If you got a small nose–or one that turns up– the adjustments don’t allow you to get the tips angled up enough to get a good seal.
The mask also comes with a hook on the top of the headgear. It’s used to hold the hose away from the side of the face so you can toss and turn. A lot of users have complained that this is uncomfortable and in many cases unnecessary as it doesn’t lose seal if you have an active night.
Where can I get this?
There are a number of places you can get a mask but my preference is Amazon. They have a large range of masks and also provide replacement parts if you need them. This is the type of mask you don’t want to replace completely as it’s expensive at around $120. But replacement parts can be bought as and when you need it. For example the cushion is around $30: much cheaper than a new mask.
- This is a very comfortable mask with the ability to fit a wide range of faces and noses. It has been well received by a lot of users who swear by it.
- Comes in For Her size and style
- As with all nasal masks this mask isn’t suitable from mouth breathers.
